South of Abu Dhabi and near the Saudi border lies the large oasis area of Liwa. The regularly changing colors of the huge sand dunes—from bright gold to deep red, depending on the sun’s position—make this landscape truly unforgettable. The area makes for an exotic break from the bustling city.
On the drive to the oasis you make a stop at the golden dunes of the world-famous Rub' Al Khali, also known as the “Empty Quarter.” It forms part of the largest desert in the Arabian Peninsula.
Keep your eyes open for a glimpse of the region’s graceful gazelle before stopping for an authentic lunch at a local guest house.
