Description:

Spend a day exploring some of Greece's most important archaeological sites. See the ancient theater at Epidaurus, allegedly the birth place of Apollo's son, Asklepios the healer. In the afternoon, explore Mycenae and its citadel, home to the mythological kingdom of Agamemnon.

Leaving the city behind, contemplate the charming evergreen scenery of the countryside and pause for a photo stop at the Corinth canal before continuing your journey. Once at Epidaurus, explore the imposing UNESCO-listed ancient theater. Admire its construction as your guide explains why this well-preserved, classical Greek building is still in use today due to its fabulous acoustics.

Hear the myth of Apollo's son, Asklepios the healer. Legend holds that this was his birthplace, making Epidaurus the most celebrated healing center of the classical world. Next, visit the museum to learn about the history behind artifacts like the statues of Asclepius and Hygeia.

Head to the first capital of modern Greece—Nafplio. Follow your guide for a walking tour of the town and its fortress, and have some free time for lunch. Your last destination is Mycenae, where you can explore the archaeological site that was home to the mythical kingdom of Agamemnon—the king who waged the Trojan War. Hear about the city's history as a major hub of Greek civilization as you visit the citadel, the sculpted Lion Gate at its main entrance, and the tomb of Agamemnon—built between 1510 and 1220 BC—before returning to Athens.
