Description:

Immerse yourself in the culture, cuisine, and artistry of the Oaxaca region with this guided tour of Huatulco's central La Crucecita district. Watch local artisans at work, taste smoky mezcal, and admire Mexico's largest painting of the Virgin Mary on the ceiling of the local church.

After being picked up from your hotel, begin your tour at a local textile workshop. Watch artisans work on old-fashioned looms to weave clothing, rugs, hammocks, and carpets in vibrant colors and traditional patterns.

Next, stop at a traditional Oaxacan-style building for a tasting of the region's famous libation. Sip on 1 of 23 different varieties as you learn about the production of the spirit, from roasting the agave core to distillation, and snack on local specialties. If the toasted, chili-dusted grasshoppers aren't up your alley, try the rich mole sauces made with seeds, nuts, chilies, and cocoa.

Step into the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This church near La Crucecita's main square is adorned with a 65-foot (30-m) tall fresco of the Virgin of Guadalupe, the patron saint of Mexico.
