Immerse yourself in the colorful costumes, vibrant songs, and folk dances of pre-Hispanic times at the Guelaguetza festival. Learn about the show’s Zapotec, Mixtec, and Aztec origins as you enjoy a delicious dinner of traditional Oaxacan cuisine.

The Guelaguetza festival celebrates the supreme god and ancient deities of the pre-Columbian Zapotec and Mixtec populations. When these civilizations were conquered by the Aztecs, the ritual grew to include song and dance in celebration of the Aztec goddess Xilomen.

Admire the bright and elaborate costumes as you listen to regional music and watch the indigenous dances of various cultural groups from all corners of Oaxaca during a joyful and captivating revue. As you soak up the atmosphere of the fiesta, fill your plate with regional specialties like the various mole dishes that Oaxaca is known for.

This jubilant performance is held at either the Casa de Cantera restaurant or in the 16th-century chapel of a Dominican convent.
