Description:

Hop across the Singapore border to the neighboring state of Johor, Malaysia, to explore its cultural diversity and rich history with local arts and handicrafts. Visit the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque and a local village, stop by a Muslim cemetery and the Royal Mausoleum, and tour a handicraft center.

Your adventure begins as you head to the scenic Singapore-Johor causeway. After you cross the Johor border, proceed to your first attraction, the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque. Constructed in 1892, the mosque is the official mosque of the state of Johor. Take the opportunity to snap some pictures of this architectural marvel before you visit a local village to see the traditional Malay lifestyle.

Next, stop by a traditional Muslim cemetery beside the Royal Mausoleum to take in the serenity of the resting place of the 21st Sultan of Johor, Sultan Abu Bakar. On your tour of a local handicraft center, see traditional batik cloth, handwoven textiles, carvings, and pottery. Talk to the artists while they work and buy a souvenir or 2 before you make your way back to your Singapore hotel.
