It was at the Lexington Battle Green, on the morning of April 19 that “the first blood was spilt in the dispute with Great Britain.” This quote comes directly from George Washington's diary, from an entry about the victorious day when 77 minutemen faced off against 700 British regulars—and won.
Explore on your own to feel the gravitas of the battlefield. View the historic homes and taverns from the 17th and 18th centuries. Concord's North Bridge, site of “the shot heard ‘round the world,” is a perfect place to reflect. Take in the famous The Minute Man statue by Daniel Chester French. Journey past the homes of world-renowned authors like Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Louisa May Alcott.
Your tour ends at Old North Bridge, now part of the Minute Man National Historical Park, where dramatic reenactments of the fierce battle take place each year.
