Description:
Discover the Pak Ou Caves, a sacred Buddhist site overlooking the Mekong River. Explore this important religious site, enjoy a delicious lunch on the riverbank, and visit 2 traditional Lao villages, Ban Xanghai and Ban Xangkong.
In the morning, enjoy convenient hotel pickup and head to the jetty where your boat awaits. Hop aboard and travel upstream, along the great Mekong River, toward the mysterious Pak Ou Caves. Pass majestic limestone cliffs as well as traditional Lao villages.
Arrive at the Pak Ou Caves and admire naturally formed stalagmites and stalactites. Marvel at the impressive collection of miniature Buddha statues in various positions, including meditation, peace, teaching, and reclining. Continue to the Ban Xanghai village to see locals distill rice wine by a generations-old method before relishing a delicious Lao lunch on the Mekong's riverbank.
Then stop at Ban Xangkong, a well-known woodcarving and silk-weaving village. Watch as locals demonstrate the intricate art of carving wood and weaving silk by hand. Take some time to interact and learn about customs, heritage, and daily lives. Browse through a selection of high-quality silk products before returning to your hotel.
