On this hour-long journey through Hatch Show Print's shops and galleries, come face-to-face with the vibrant history of letterpress printmaking, uncover its strong connection to classic American musicians and Southern culture, and hand-ink your very own poster using a classic wood type.

Started in 1879, Hatch Show Print played a vital role in Nashville becoming the country music capital of the world. Today, this living, breathing museum practices “preservation through production,” churning out more than 500 original posters each year.

Enter the large print shop to see hand-set posters rolling off the presses, colorful, one-of-a-kind monoprints, and scores of wood and led types that have made posters for everyone from Duke Ellington to The White Stripes. Take a second to breathe in the history of the shop, whose employees still call clients with a rotary phone.

Once you've inspected the presses and learned a great deal about their history, it's time to create a commemorative poster of your own. Ink a classic wood type and hand-crank the machine, applying the final color to your collector's item. Your newly finished poster is a reminder of the classic craft of American printmaking, still vibrant after all these years.
