In Rapa Nui National Park venture to the Tahai Ceremonial Complex, consisting of 3 ahu (stone platforms): Ko Te Riku, Tahai, and Vai Ure. The mysterious and massive statues, also called moai, depict a large head with a torso and form part of the most significant monuments of the Polynesian heritage. Admire the Ko Te Riku moai, known for its restored eyes, and continue to Vai Ure.

Next, head to the 1,063-foot (324-m) Rano Kau, an extinct volcano on the edge of the island, and hike to its top to view the unique crater lake and an impressive panorama with the Motu islets in the background. Adjacent to the volcano is the Orongo stone village, formerly used to worship the Birdmen Cult. Visit this ceremonial city—comprising 53 restored houses, the Mata Ngarahu sacred precinct, and impressive petroglyphs—before returning to your hotel.
