Description:

Experience the thrill of the outdoors on this guided canoe journey to Blue Spring State Park. Enjoy the natural surroundings of largest spring on the Saint Johns River as you paddle through the calm and clear waters of this Florida wetland.

Meet your guide in Blue Spring State Park, and let them help you get situated on your kayak. Once you're comfortable, steer your vessel along the smooth waterway and into the entrance of the spring run. Park your kayak and take a guided walk along the full length of the spring. Keep your camera at the ready to capture the natural surroundings and wildlife. This amazing park is the winter home to one of Florida’s biggest manatee populations. Watch for these majestic creatures as they swim and feed in the spring. On a regular day, hundreds of manatees can be seen take a breaking in the cool waters.

Back on your kayak, float through an area visited in 1766 by British botanist, John Bartram. As you cruise, your guide—a Florida Master Naturalist—shares insight into the flora and fauna that surround you. See the historical home of the Timucuan Indians at Hontoon Island and Florida's largest totem pole. This area is frequently visited by cute and curious river otters. Keep your eyes peeled as you scan the banks for Florida alligators soaking up the sun. Overhead bald eagles, ospreys, and red shoulder hawks are on the hunt for tasty fish. This amazing day on the water provides incredible insight into this fascinating Floridian habitat.
