Uncover the secrets behind Pompeii's world-famous ruins before exploring the scenic town of Sorrento on this full-day tour from Rome. Travel by high-speed train in a small group of 15 or fewer to experience the highlights, history, and culture of southern Italy with a knowledgeable local guide.
Meet your guide at the Termini station, where you receive your ticket for a speedy 1-hour journey to Naples. Upon arrival, transfer by a short private coach journey to the UNESCO-listed archaeological site of Pompeii. Unearth the history of the once prosperous town and learn about the tragic events of that fateful night in 79 AD, after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
After some free time to peruse the local stalls, continue your tour until you reach Sorrento. Along the way, stop at some pre-selected prime locations along the famous coastal road to take pictures of the breathtaking scenery. Enjoy plenty of free time to grab lunch in one of the authentic restaurants, or shop for artisan, handmade, locally produced products.
Meet back with your guide and head to one of Sorrento's oldest shops to sample one of southern Italy's most famous exports, Limoncello. Learn how this lemon-flavored liqueur is produced, along with the ingredients that make it so unique. Return to Naples, to the high-speed train that gets you back to Rome by early evening.
