Description:

See a production of Mozart's opera “Don Giovanni” performed at the National Marionette Theatre, and experience one of Prague's proudest traditions first-hand. The theater's tall puppets, dressed in 18th-century costumes, have been enchanting audiences young and old for nearly 2 decades.

Don Giovanni is based on the legends of fictional charmer Don Juan, and was specifically composed for Prague by Mozart in 1787. See and hear the captivating story—straddling the boundaries of comedy and tragedy—of Lothario and the tragic consequences of his actions.

The difference with this opera is that it is presented using puppets, or “marionettes”, that are 2-feet (0.6-m) tall and carved from wood. Prague is known for its use of puppetry in its art, and Don Giovanni has been performed at the intimate National Marionette Theatre since 1991. This is an entertaining and uniquely Czech way to see this amusing story.
