Description:

Travel to New Zealand’s high country for a 4WD tour and expert commentary of the filming locations for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Cross crystalline rivers and learn about the area's gold-mining history while trying your hand at gold panning.

After being picked up from your Queenstown hotel in a Land Rover Defender, the day begins with a drive into the breathtaking Remarkables mountain range, the location for the trilogy's Misty Mountains. Continue up the range until you reach a point overlooking Deer Park Heights. It's here that scenes were shot of the refugees of Rohan and the Battle of the Wargs.

You then head to the Kawarau Gorge, the location for the Pillars of the Kings before arriving at Arrowtown, a famous gold mining area and site of the filming of the loss of The One Ring at Gladden Fields. Driving along a historic gold mining road, crisscross the Arrow River, until you reach the location for the Ford of Bruinen. Enjoy a tea break beside the river and hear the history of area as you pan for gold.

The day is capped with a scenic drive to Coronet Peak and the entrance to Skippers Canyon, offering views of the entire Wakatipu Basin, before returning to Queenstown.
