Description:
A 5-minute drive south of Rapid City takes you to Fort Hays, where you can see the most popular variety show in the Black Hills. Before taking your seat at the show, stroll through the town and meet a blacksmith, pan for gems, make a lasso, and enjoy a delicious barbecue meal with all the fixings.
Stretch your legs out in the authentic Old West. Saunter through Fort Hays to experience Western entertainment that's fun for the whole family. Stop by stations where you can try to master a few historical trades for yourself. Learn to make a lasso, pan for precious metals, or maybe even meet a blacksmith and make yourself a souvenir. Then head to the South Dakota Film Museum to see a Dances With Wolves film set.
Once the supper bell rings, all cowboys and cowgirls are called to the Chuckwagon to sink their teeth into some Old West grub. Following dinner, take a seat in the town theater to be entertained by the Fort Hays Wranglers, who incorporate good clean humor and cowboy tunes into their foot-stomping variety act. The show winds down with enough time for you to travel to Mount Rushmore for the lighting ceremony.
