Description:

Dive into one of the top 10 diving sites in the world and wonder at the vastness of the underwater world. Explore this unique fissure, the fascinating result of tectonic drift, with an expert PADI instructor.

After your hotel pickup, head to Þingvellir National Park, a site of cultural, historical, and geological importance, as well as home to the largest natural lake in the country. Your PADI instructor explains certain geological features of the area and gives you a safety and signaling briefing before your descent into the deep waters of the lake.

Immerse yourself in the wonders of this tectonic fissure between the North American and Eurasian continental plates. Follow your instructor to explore the 3 sections of the fissure: the Hall, the Cathedral, and the Lagoon. Its deepest point is 197 feet (63 m), but its most charming sights—arguably—are in the Silfra Cathedral, a 328-foot (100-m) fissure with crystal-clear water that allows you to see from end to end.

Explore the Cathedral at a maximum depth of 66 feet (20 m) and admire its lava-rock walls that fall straight down, making it one of the most fantastic underwater views. Then continue to the Lagoon—where the depth decreases—and then ascend back to the surface after an amazing dive.
