Take in the spectacular seaside scenery just north of the city center on this guided running tour.

Lace up your shoelaces and hit the pavement for a moderately paced 6.2-mile (10-km) run. Feel the sea breeze as you follow your guide along the shoreline of the bay toward Crissy Field. This former Coast Guard Station and one-time US Army airfield is now a favorite park, and locals and visitors alike flock here when the fog lifts. From the beach, you have uninterrupted views of the foreboding island prison of Alcatraz and the forested hills of Angel Island.

Cross onto the sidewalks of the Marina district, where pastel-colored homes snuggle side-by-side with charming clothing boutiques and neighborhood cafes. Keep up the pace as you approach the park-like setting of the Palace of Fine Arts. Stop to stretch and catch your breath in the shadow of this splendid edifice—the only remaining building from the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition.
