Work up a sweat while you take in the coastal sights on this guided running tour of Land’s End—San Francisco’s famously foggy and breathtakingly charming seaside. Jog along the shores of Ocean Beach, spot the Golden Gate, and catch your breath at the elegant plaza of the Palace of the Legion of Honor.
Meet your guide on the tree-shaded trails of Golden Gate Park and set out at a moderate pace, heading from the vast green space of this urban park to the wide sandy swath of Ocean Beach. With the crashing surf of the Pacific as your backdrop, run north along the beach in the direction of the landmark Cliff House, which sits perched about the eerie ruins of the Sutro Baths.
As you loop around the edge of the peninsula, the tawny span of the Golden Gate Bridge and the rolling brown hills of the Marin Headlands come into view. Take in the spectacular vista as you weave between the eucalyptus trees and rocky beachfront trails of Land’s End. At low tide, you might even spot a shipwreck from the trail’s viewpoints.
Jog up an incline toward the interior of the park until you reach the Palace of the Legion of Honor, a charming art museum that’s also a full-scale replica of the Palais de la Légion d’Honneur in Paris, France. Stop to stretch, cool down, and take in the peaceful scenery at the end of your 6-mile (9.6-km) outing.
