The legendary island of Santorini offers plenty for travelers. Visit the mysterious ruins and fascinating exhibition at ancient Arkotiri with your expert guide, taste crisp local wine, and sail the sweeping blue Aegean Sea during a day abundant with memorable experiences.
Often called the cradle of civilization, Greece is a treasure trove for the historically inclined. Arkotiri's fascinating past comes alive as you stroll by excavation sites, colorful ceramics, frescoes, and artifacts with a knowledgeable guide. Human habitation can be traced back as early as the 5th millennium BC and this affluent town is thought to have disappeared in the 17th century BC with the volcanic eruption of Thera.
Visit 3 wineries in the rugged countryside, where the fertile volcanic soil and the almost constant sunshine provide excellent circumstances for wine production. Descend into cellars, learn about the precious process of winemaking, and sample 12 Santorini wines including Nykteri, Assyrtiko, and the sublimely sweet Vinsanto.
Next, admire breathtaking scenery as you gently ride the waves of the azure Aegean Sea. As your boat glides by awe-inspiring cliffs dropping steeply to the deep blue ocean, marvel at picturesque white villages perched atop the edge of an extinct volcanic caldera.
