Description:

Ride along the historic rail line from Jington to Pingxi on this day tour. Traverse wooded gorges and serene rivers, and then take a stroll down the Old Street. Write down a wish on lantern and let it go, watching it glow in the sky as part of the annual Sky Lantern Festival.

Begin your tour with pickup at your Taipei hotel and take a break as you journey to Jingtong, once the largest coal mine in Taiwan. Make your way to Jingtong Train Station, 1 of just 4 wooden stations remaining in Taiwan. Board the nostalgic train, which was built nearly a century ago and used to transport coal miners in the early 1920s.

Upon arrival at Pingxi, set out for a walk across the lush and hilly landscape of the Crags of Pingxi. Along your journey, take in spectacular views of the surrounding hills and forests. After all that hiking, refuel your energy with an authentic miner’s lunch on Jingtong Old Street.

Next, head back to Pingxi for your very own Sky Lantern experience. Write your wishes on the lantern and light a candle at its base before you release and watch it take flight into the luminous sky. Experience this magical tradition before your return ride to your city hotel.
