Set out on a walking journey through this culturally rich capital and take a closer look at its vibrant culinary background. Sample the bright and fresh flavors of monjayaki, yakitori, and taiyaki that helped give this city its gastronomic reputation.

Begin your walking adventure at the Yakitori Alley, near Yurakucho. Your guide explains the history of food in the area, dating back to the first ever yakitori—skewered barbecue chicken—a favorite appetizer in Japan. Indulge in a sample accompanied by sake or a local beer.

It is then time to head to Monja Street in Tsukishima, the famous place where monjayaki—a Japanese pan-fried batter with a choice of various chopped ingredients such as vegetables, fish, or chicken—is said to have originated. Here you have a chance to watch it being prepared and even have a chat with the cook.

Tokyo's food experience cannot be complete without a tasting of its famous wagashi. Usually made from rice and red beans, these sweets change depending on season, even their shapes are inspired by what can be found in nature during that season. To complete your night, end at a local pub where your guide gives you tips on local food, restaurants, and bars.
