Description:
The incredible, diverse scenery of the Australian Outback forms the setting for a week of exploration and adventure. From the cozy community of Alice Springs to the vast expanses of the Red Centre around Uluru and Kata Tjuta or the sheer walls of Kings Canyon, your tour offers plenty to impress.
Day 1:
Start with an afternoon tour of the historic sites in Alice Springs, including the telegraph station built to link southern Australia with Great Britain. Explore the Alice Springs Reptile Centre to see unique central Australian reptiles, and then enjoy panoramic views of the city and the surrounding mountains from Anzac Hill.
Day 2:
A ride through the Outback shows you the magnificent grandeur of the West MacDonnell Ranges and the red-walled cleft of Standley Chasm. Learn the mystique of the Ellery Creek Big Hole and the cultural significance of the Ochre Pits, enjoy the view from Glen Helen Gorge, and see the quartzite cliffs at Simpsons Gap, a haven for black-footed rock wallabies.
Day 3:
Travel by 4x4 through the West MacDonnell Ranges to Hermannsburg, renowned for its Aboriginal art and the paintings of Albert Namatjira. Travel down the Finke River, one of the largest rivers in Australia, into Palm Valley and see spectacular rock forms, white sands, and an oasis of rock pools and palm trees.
Day 4:
As you pass through the West MacDonnell and James Ranges, stop at a local camel farm and get an outstanding view of the majestic Mount Conner. In the afternoon, see the 36 domed outcrops of Kata Tjuta on your way to Walpa Gorge. Follow a walking trail between two of Kata Tjuta's tallest domes, and then visit the Uluru sunset viewing area to see the striking colors of evening on the giant sandstone monolith.
Day 5:
Get up early for another look at Uluru from Talinguru Nyakunytjaku, a sunrise viewing area. After a tour around the base of Uluru, visit the Mutitjulu Waterhole to view Aboriginal rock paintings, learn about the area's native wildlife and history, and see Aboriginal arts and crafts on a visit to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre.
Day 6:
In the morning, pay a visit to Kings Canyon, where you can choose to join a guided climb to the rim for marvelous views of Watarrka National Park or take an easier, shady walk to explore the boulder-strewn canyon floor. Stop at Kings Creek Station before moving on to Alice Springs.
Day 7:
Your tour comes to an end with a transfer to Alice Springs Airport for your onward flight.
