Description:
Journey to the breathtaking Kings Canyon and experience the remoteness of Australia's outback along the way to Watarrka National Park. Make the rocky climb to the rim of the canyon for marvelous views or take an easier walk to explore the boulder-strewn canyon floor.
Start your adventure with an early pickup from your Ayers Rock hotel and travel to Kings Canyon. Stop for a light breakfast at a typical outback cattle and camel station at Kings Creek before continuing on to the Watarrka National Park. Along the way, pass by impressive sights of Kings Canyon and hear stories about the region's history and landscape.
Upon arrival, jump off the coach and explore the canyon by foot on either the rocky 3.5-mile (6-km) Rim Walk or the easier 1-mile (2-km) Creek Bed Walk. On the 3-hour circuit Rim Walk, climb up a 328-foot (100-m) cliff face and walk around the rim of the canyon. Take in a bird's-eye view of the canyon gorge and its magnificent sandstone walls. Then follow a steep trail into the Garden of Eden—a green oasis with natural spring waterholes surrounded by local plants and trees.
For an easier and shorter walk, stroll along the creek bed and explore amazing views from the boulder-strewn canyon floor. When you're done, leave the canyon behind you and travel to the Kings Canyon Resort for a lunch break (at your own expense). Then take a break on your afternoon return trip to Ayers Rock Resort or Alice Springs.
