Description:

Climb aboard a Cold War-era Nysa 522 van for an engaging tour that introduces you to Warsaw's Communist legacy. Learn about the city's past at some of the major sites related to events under the regime's rule, see an exhibition of relics, and taste snacks and aperitifs from the socialist era.

Since the fall of Communism in 1990, Warsaw is abuzz with a newfound energy. As you explore the bustling city with a local guide, learn about life behind the Iron Curtain and hear anecdotes of historical figures like the leader of the Solidarity movement, Lech Walesa, who played a pivotal role in the regime's fall.

Start your adventure at Constitution Square, a showpiece of social realist utopia, and pose for a photograph in front of the columns of the Ministry of Agriculture, erected during the Stalinist era of the late 1940s and early 1950s. Arrive at the tallest building of town, the Palace of Culture and Science, a Soviet construction that towers more than 750 feet (230 m) in the air.

See the former seat of Poland's Communist Party and the gritty housing estates of the Praga district before visiting the Museum of Life under Communism. Walk through a small apartment decorated in the style of the socialist era, a party member's office, and a street with a shop and pub from the period. Watch propaganda films, experience how people lived under the watch of the secret police, and taste snacks and liqueurs that would have been consumed in the 1950s and 60s.
