This tour explores the relationship rural Portuguese villages have with nature, especially with regard to cork and its surprising number of uses. Take part in a cork workshop and visit a local distillery to explore how the produce of the natural world is used to enhance day-to-day lives.
High in the hills away from the coast, locals harvest a variety of crops that can be used in place of artificial products in everyday living. During an enlightening workshop you begin to understand how the local people use the cork harvested from a Mediterranean tree to create a range of products that are not only of great use but also environmentally attentive.
Dotted throughout the cork forest are Portuguese villages with residents living by traditional means that have served them well for generations. There are also honey producers generating fantastic, sweet-tasting nectar. At a local distillery, see how Aguardente de Medronho is made. The brandy is infused with wild berries to create a delicious, yet strong-tasting beverage.
