Description:

Take a tour to West MacDonnell National Park, with its vast, craggy gorges and red-ochre rock walls. Be amazed by the stunning rock formations at Simpsons Gap and Standley Chasm. Visit the tranquil waterholes at Glen Helen Gorge and Ormiston Gorge.

After morning pickup from your hotel, travel along the mountains of West MacDonnell National Park. Arrive at your first stop, the Standley Chasm, and see the striking deep-red cleft that glows from reflected sunlight. Walk into the chasm and admire the fascinating rock facade. Stop here for morning tea before continuing to Ellery Creek Big Hole. Take a walk along the creek bed to a cool waterhole below a steep rocky escarpment.

In this great setting, break for a ploughman's lunch accompanied by a glass of wine, cold beer, or refreshing soft drink. After lunch, visit Ormiston Gorge and go for a swim if the water temperature is right for you (depends heavily on the time of year).

For your last stop, visit the Simspons Gap and marvel at the rich ochre-colored rock walls. Look for black-footed rock wallabies, eagles, and falcons while absorbing the spectacular scenery.
