Description:
Spend the day walking in the footsteps of the legendary St. Francis as you explore the world-famous pilgrimage site of Assisi. On this tour, you also visit the scenic hilltown of Montefalco, known for producing the delicious Sagrantino wine, which you get to taste as you explore a local winery.
Set off from Perugia into the undulating, verdant countryside of the Umbria region, and arrive at the city of Assisi. Explore the town center, and then take a poignant visit to the striking Basilica of St. Francis—the cathedral where St. Francis spent his time and also where he is now laid to rest.
Next, visit the town of Montefalco, best known for its export of Sagrantino wines. Only produced in this town, the grape has an extremely high tannin level, resulting in a very rich and dark purple wine.
Make your way to a sprawling wine estate for an authentic lunch of traditional, homemade Umbrian dishes. Stroll through the vineyards, and learn the process of winemaking from grape to glass. No visit to this winery would be complete without sampling some of the full-bodied, rich wines the area is best known for.
