Experience the great Australian outdoors on this exciting adventure. Let the city views take your breath away from the top of verdant Mount Whitfield, explore native plants and Aboriginal history on the Gondawanan Heritage Walk, and enjoy a delicious picnic lunch of fresh fish and chips.
Your tour begins as you make your way to the Botanical Gardens—if the sun's not too intense, hit the trail for a 40-minute hike to the top of Mount Whitfield through rainforest gorges and open grassland. At the top, you're greeted by awe-inspiring views of Cairns' coastline. Take in panoramas that include Trinity Inlet and the surrounding region and snap a photo of this postcard-worthy view.
Continue on the Gondawanan Heritage Walk to the Aboriginal Plants and Gardens area, where you can see and learn about the range of plants used for medicinal purposes throughout Australia. After working up an appetite, it's time for lunch—find a spot in the shade and tuck into a picnic lunch of locally caught fish and chips.
Next, hop back on the bus and head downtown to the Wildlife Dome, a 66-foot (20 m) tall glass domed wildlife center. Climb to the top for another view over the city, and explore the rainforest surroundings on the Dome's different levels—you can encounter exotic animals like parrots, cockatoos, turtles, freshwater crocodiles, and cuddly koalas in this amazing space.
