Experience the ancient Mayan town of Copán, the main historical attraction of neighboring Honduras. Located just over the eastern border, this archaeological site never fails to impress, with its temples, pyramids, and lush tropical vegetation.

Depart by bus from Guatemala City and head toward Honduras with a boxed breakfast served en route; then arrive at Copán. Founded around the 5th century, Copán was a capital of the Mayan kingdom. Explore the Acropolis, once the main square of the great town, featuring 2 large plazas, the famous Hieroglyphic Stairway, as well as other important structures.

Just like most Mayan towns, Copán has various temples and altars as well as a ball court, where an ancient ritualistic game was once practiced.
