Board your vehicle at your hotel and set out on an 8-hour expedition to the Sacred Valley. As you drive, learn about the special geographic location and climate of the region that made it so useful for the Incas for maize production and storage. Stop at the Pisac Market to purchase charmingly crafted local products, or simply wander around the market and admire the artistic and cultural expression of the local people.

At lunchtime, enjoy an authentic Peruvian meal at a local restaurant before you board your vehicle and make your way to the fortress of Ollantaytambo. Gaze up at the Temple of the Sun at the top of its stepped terraces and admire the massive stones—each about 12 feet (3.5 m) tall—that were used to build this magnificent structure. Follow your guide through the terraces to the temples and the baths of the Inca princes, and soak up the majestic mountain setting of the ruins before you return to Cusco.
