Tee off and watch your ball sail past sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and Napali Coast before it lands on a tight fairway of the Makai Golf Course. Consistently rated among the top places to play in the country, this Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed course is a Hawaiian golf legend.
Originally opened in 1971, the Makai Golf Course at Princeville once featured 3 different 9-hole courses, each highlighting a specific Hawaiian environment: ocean, woodlands, and lakes. In 2010, the links were renovated and improved to create the all-encompassing 18-hole masterpiece you now play.
Named after the Hawaiian word meaning “toward the ocean,” the Makai Course winds along the rocky bluffs of Kauai’s northern coast. Crush your drives through the mist of crashing waves and hit your approach shots close to crushed velvet greens. At the turn, recharge your swing at the Makai Grill, offering full-service breakfast, lunch, and boxed meals to go.
Attack the second half of this challenging course as you leave the coast and move north, navigating pristine lakes flanked by tall native grasses and glowing white sand bunkers. Along the way, keep an eye out for endangered species of native Hawaiian birds who call the course home.
