Description:

Spend a day exploring the highlights of colonial and modern Macau. Trek through the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the historic center, including A-Ma Temple and the Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral, then visit the sky-high Macau Tower and the island's infamous Macau Casino.

Your first stop is at Penha Hill—located at the southern end of the Macau Peninsula, this vantage point offers excellent views of Macau's skyline, expansive Praia Bay, and Taipa Island. Next, visit the historic A-Ma Temple—built in 1488, this Taoist structure consists of 6 different buildings, prayer halls, arches, and pavilions.

Continue to Macau Tower, which rises above the city to a height of 1,109 ft (388 m). For sweeping views over the city, head up to the observation deck, or test your nerves with a harnessed-in walk on the building's outer rim at the Skywalk X.

Pass by the waterfront statue atop the temple of Kun Iam, then pop into a Macanese store to browse for Portuguese and Chinese specialties like rich, egg custard dates and crunchy almond cakes. Stop for a delicious Portuguese-style lunch at a local restaurant before exploring Fisherman's Wharf, Macau's first theme park. From there, head to the 16th-century Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral—this charming church façade is all that stands of an old cathedral that was destroyed in a fire.

Your last stop is the luxurious Venetian Resort, modeled on The Venetian Las Vegas. Stroll through the massive complex and, if you like, stick around to roll the dice at the casino—The Venetian Macau is the largest in the world.
