The building that houses the Prado Museum first opened its doors to the public in 1819 (when it was the Natural History Cabinet). It now serves as the Royal Museum of Paintings and Sculptures, housing the largest and most significant collection of Spanish paintings.

Thanks to the preservation of the Habsburg and Bourbon monarchs of the 16th century, you can view some of the world’s great masterpieces, such as “The Garden of Earthly Delights” by Bosch, “The Nobleman with His Hand on His Chest” by El Greco, and “Las Meninas” by Velázquez.

This guided tour explores the collection in chronological order, starting with the masterpieces of Bosch and continuing through rooms devoted to El Greco and Velázquez—including paintings of drunkards and equestrian portraits. End with Goya’s “Portrait of the Family of Carlos IV” and the masterful “The Third of May 1808.”
