Description:

Healsville Sanctuary is a bushland haven for Australia's native wildlife. Get an up-close look at threatened, endangered, and unusual species from bilbies to platypuses, and learn about the sanctuary's efforts to rescue and rehabilitate the fascinating creatures of the Land Down Under.

Head to the walk-through aviary at the Land of Parrots to hand-feed bright lorikeets and watch zebra finches flit through the ferns. Listen to the dingoes howl as they roam their rocky habitat, and at the Cool Conservation exhibit, get a rare look at endangered species like the diminutive mountain pygmy possum and the black and yellow Southern Corroboree Frog. Step into the Nocturnal House for a look at the continent's nighttime critters, from bilbies and bandicoots to burrowing wombats.

Take a seat for a keeper-led show to learn even more. At Tales from Platypus Creek, watch this duck-billed marsupial swim and play in the water. Spirits of the Sky shines the spotlight on our feathered friends, with colorful parrots and hawk-eyed birds of prey swooping through the air.

Visitors of all ages can get in on the interactive fun as Lunar the Leadbeater's Possum leads you on a multi-media journey through the secret forest. The Kids' Nature Play area is chock full of outdoor adventure, with elevated lookouts, tunnels, and a sensory garden.

Finally, visit the Australian Wildlife Health Centre, where more than 2,000 sick or injured native animals are rescued, rehabilitated, and released each year. Learn what you can do to help the important work of the sanctuary at Fighting Extinction Headquarters—researchers here work each day to save Australia's incredibly rich and unique fauna.
