Description:
Bid farewell to Queenstown as you journey across some of the most dramatic natural landscapes of the South Island on a day trip to Milford Sound. Then, hop aboard a boat for a guided cruise of the magnificent Milford Sound with its glaciated mountains, crashing waterfalls, and local wildlife.
After pick-up from your hotel, your luxury coach traces the shoreline of Lake Wakatipu; look out your window at the sprawling Remarkables mountain range in the background. Your first stop brings you to Te Anau, the “Gateway to Fjordland”, where you can enjoy a morning tea.
Back on the coach, head toward Milford Road, famed for its breathtaking stretch of snow-capped mountains, rainforests, and waterfalls. Carved directly into the mountainside, drive through Homer Tunnel before reaching Milford Sound.
At the boat ramp, pause to take in the glassy blue waters of the glacier-fed fjord. Climb on board and from the deck of the boat, take in views of the towering mountains that line Milford Sound, including the iconic Mitre Peak, rising close to 1 mile (1.6 km) from the sea floor to its peak.
As you cruise along the waters, listen to the Bowen Waterfall crashing hundreds of feet into the fjiord. Study the rich green mosses and ferns of the rainforest, and look out for potential sightings of seals and dolphins playing in the boat’s waves.
After your 90-minute scenic cruise, sit back and take a break on your drive back to Queenstown.
