Description:
Spend 2 days getting to know the unique history and culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Cross the border from Croatia to admire the charming towns of Mostar and Pocitelj, and spend your second day exploring wartime memories and local cuisine in Sarajevo.
On your first day, leave Dubrovnik for a scenic drive across the border. Your first stop on this picturesque route is Pocitelj, a delightful UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with medieval and Ottoman structures. Stroll through the town on a guided walking tour and visit the striking hilltop fort and Haji-Ali Mosque.
Your next destination is Mostar, known for being a crossroads of Moorish, Muslim, and Christian culture. Snap some photos of the spectacular white-stone bridge that appears on many of the country's postcards, and then look out over the river below as you traverse the bridge.
As the day draws to a close, drive on to Sarajevo to enjoy an evening at your leisure and a night at a centrally located hotel. The next morning, drive to the Sarajevo Tunnel Museum to learn about the conflict that followed the country's independence in the 1990s and see the role that the 2,625-foot (800-m) tunnel played in supplying the population while the city was under siege.
Stroll through the Old Town to explore highlights like the bustling Bascarsija Bazaar. Enjoy an authentic kebab lunch at a local cafe, and try some traditional baklava desserts, before heading off to enjoy some leisure time. Later, hop back in your comfortable minivan for the journey back to your Dubrovnik hotel.
