Description:
Set out to explore the rugged beauty of the Fleurieu Peninsula. The coast is fringed with beaches, and the wineries of McClaren Vale dot the inland hills. Take in the natural splendor and wildlife in a 4x4 vehicle, stopping to sip wine and enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch along the way.
Pass by ancient geological sites as you ride into Fleurieu Peninsula— the traditional home of the Kaurna and Ngarrindjeri Indigenous Australians. Rolling vineyards usher you into the McLaren Vale wine-growing region, where some of the best reds and whites from down under are harvested and bottled.
Take a mid-morning break for flavorful cheeses, handcrafted beers, and local wines, and then head to a cellar door—that's Aussie lingo for tasting room—for an up-close look at a boutique winery's operations. Listen as the winemaker describes the region's unique characteristics, and taste wine straight from the barrel.
Ride over bush trails and drive along Silver Sands Beach, looking out over the crashing surf and the blue expanse of Gulf St Vincent. Criss-cross off-road tracks as you motor up and over the Willunga Hills into Inman Valley and Second Valley. Hop out to stretch your legs, and then take a seat for a gourmet picnic lunch. Featuring fresh, regional cuisine, your delectable meal comes complete with incredible views of the South Australia coast and the Southern Ocean.
Continue your journey into the afternoon.
