Take an interactive journey through more than 140 years of history at the site of Australia's oldest operating railway, plus go behind the scenes with one of the Heritage Railway Workshops Tours to learn about the skills required to work with trains.

Enter the museum to explore more than 15 interactive exhibits, including Australia's oldest working steam locomotive. Sit in a restored carriage, such as the Vice-Regal, or walk along a re-created platform and hear the sounds of the train being prepared for its journey.

A behind-the-scenes tour of the Blacksmiths Shop lets you see sparks fly, feel the heat of the furnaces, and hear the thud of gigantic hammers. Alternatively, choose to visit the Steam Shop and explore the ins and outs of real steam trains as you watch Queensland Rail workers maintain and restore the heart of the Queensland Rail heritage train fleet.

After working up an appetite, enjoy your selected lunch option at the Trackside Café. Then step inside a diesel simulator and experience the thrill of piloting a train.

Families with little ones can find a great indoor playground at Nippers Railway, where kids can climb aboard kid-size trains, get dressed up, and play train driver.
