Description:

Embark on your day of adventure, packed with epic canyoning, stunning scenery, and a helicopter ride. Your adrenalin starts pumping the minute you board the helicopter for your 20-minute ride from Queenstown to Mount Earnslaw, a remote canyon in an unspoiled rainforest on New Zealand’s South Island.

From your seat, enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Skippers Canyon, along the Shotover River, and down Rees Valley before landing in Mount Aspiring National Park.

Once you've landed on the mountain helicopter summit, your guide leads you to the canyon. When you arrive, be sure to ask them about the origin of the nickname “the Big Daddy of Canyoning”—although one look at the sweeping rock wall quickly gives you the answer.

Delight in your skill as you jump, slip, slide, and rappel almost 3,940 feet (1,200-m)—including a 1,640-foot (500-m) vertical stretch—before hitting the water. With 15-20 rappels for you to choose from, the canyon is classified R18, meaning there's one or more natural risk factors that could complicate—or exhilarate—your ride down.

Once inside the canyon, there’s no going back—lose your sense of time and place as you test your endurance. You're surrounded by cascading waterfalls and streams, moss-covered rock faces, and even make-shift fallen branch bridges before reaching the deep pool of water at the bottom.

After a full-day of high adrenaline coupled with pristine natural beauty, sit back for a well-deserved take a breaking ride back to Queenstown.
