Description:
Starting from Lindos, this excursion is an excellent opportunity to visit many traditional villages of Rhodes Island such as Monolithos, Sianna, Embona, and Profitis Ilias. Depending on the season, your last stop is Filerimos or the Valley of Butterflies.
You start the excursion by visiting the charming Lindos village, where you have the opportunity to walk—or hire a donkey taxi—up to the Acropolis of Lindos with a professional guide. After free time to spend around the town of Lindos, pass through the villages of Vati and Apollakia, on your way to the next stop, Monolithos, to take pictures of the castle.
Next, stop at Sianna, a small hamlet on the slopes of a mountainside, and taste some of the local honey and a local spirit, Souma. Then visit picturesque Embona, the highest village of Rhodes, south of the capital of the island. Here, enjoy a winetasting session at a winery, visit a traditional-style house, and break for lunch.
After reaching Profitis Ilias, take a coffee break and visit the monastery. Depending on the season, the last stop is Filerimos or the Valley of Butterflies (July–September). At Filerimos, visit the cross and the monastery, built in the 15th century by the Knights of Saint John. At the Valley of the Butterflies, a natural reserve, marvel at thousands of butterflies filling the lush green valley.
