Description:

Embark on a full-guided hiking tour to the top of Rio's highest mountain peak, Pico da Tijuca, an astonishing 3,352 feet (1,022 m) up. Led by knowledgeable guides, the 3.1 mile (5 k) hike passes cascading waterfalls like Cascata Taunay and provides breathtaking views of Rio and Guanabara Bay.

Leave your hotel in the convenience of a comfortable, air-conditioned van, and set off towards the trail head in Bom Retiro. Set off on a hike through the Tijuca Forest National Park and marvel at the towering trees, lush-green landscape, and variety of animals like monkeys and exotic birds. The1.5 hour journey covers about 3.1 mile (5 k) with an average 14% incline—a generally moderate hike.

Once near the mountain's summit, notice the unique stone stairway that was originally made in the 1920s for the avid hiker and Belgian King, Albert the 1st. The final steps lead to an immaculate 360-degree view of Rio lined with the deep-blue Guanabara Bay.
