Description:

Leave the streets and skyscrapers of the city behind and head into the sprawling green space of Golden Gate Park. Explore the forested trails, historic sites, and hilltop viewpoints on a guided run, exercising while you sightsee on this local-led outdoor adventure.

Grab your sneakers and meet your guide for a heart-pumping jog through Golden Gate Park. Set off down tree-shaded pathways, run past tumbling waterfalls and gurgling streams, and sweat up a storm as you sprint to the top of Strawberry Hill—the highest point in the park. From this vantage point you can gaze out over Mt. Tamalpais and the Golden Gate Bridge, and your route takes you alongside the temple-like structure of the Golden Gate Pavilion.

Pass by Rainbow Falls and climb the steep trail back to Prayerbook Cross, a 60-foot (18-m) sandstone cross that features Celtic engravings and is inscribed with prayers. Heading deeper into the wooded terrain, jog through the majestic coastal redwoods of the National AIDS Memorial Grove and the Heroes Grove, where meandering paths weave between impressive tree trunks and fragrant rose gardens.

Wind down as you approach Hippie Hill, named for hosting sit-ins and flower child gatherings during the Summer of Love. This 1960s gathering place is still a popular area to picnic and take a break, and you might even spot a drum circle on the grassy lawn before your run comes to a close.
