Description:
Discover the great natural wonder of Mount Ijen—a volcano with the world's largest acidic crater lake. Tour the green village of Banyuwangi before you hike to the mountain's summit and spot the stunning turquoise lake on this overnight trip from Bali.
Your 2-day trip begins with a scenic coach ride to Gilimanuk. Along your way, pass verdant rice fields, rustic villages, and sweeping beaches before you stop at West Bali National Park to take some photographs.
Then catch a ferry and cross the strait to Java. Refuel with delicious lunch at a local restaurant before a pedicab ride and tour of the easternmost regency of Java, Banyuwangi. After visiting a traditional market, local villages, and a historical Chinese temple, savor a tasty dinner and settle in for the evening at Ijen Resort and Villa.
On day 2, take a 4-wheel-drive vehicle to Mount Ijen's slope and pass by coffee plantations, large trees, and ferns at one of Java's last remaining rainforests. Stop at the ranger post before you begin a 1- to 2-hour hike along a shady trail uphill to the rim of the crater.
Enjoy the brilliant panoramic view as you reach the peak of this blue flame-emitting volcano. Spot the magnificent sulfuric lake and wonder at its rich turquoise color contrasting with the yellow crystalline deposit of the surrounding crater walls. Your adventure concludes with a drive back to the hotel for lunch and an afternoon departure to your Bali hotel.
