Before anyone can accurately state they are a travel "professional," they have to first awkwardly pack a suitcase, Google like no one's business, and just *go*. You can travel to hundreds of places and still arrive to the next one out of your comfort zone. That's the beauty of travel.

My first real out of the country (I'm from the US) experience was a study abroad trip to Liege, Belgium for four months. A new country with no one I knew speaking a language I also didn't know. And when I came home, depth came home with me. That sounds cliche, but I can trace back to that trip a level of confidence that I never had before. I can navigate a new place on my own, make friends who speak a different language than me, and find my way again when I'm lost. I believe I can -- because I did.
