A hidden gem that not many tourist know of, Civita Di Bagnoregio was the most immersive and authentic Italian experience I had while visiting Italy. Standing on the edge of the village, looking out over the surrounding landscape, I felt the need to pinch myself, because it felt like I was in a fairytale.

The history of Civita Di Bagnoregio is fascinating. Standing for 2500 years, it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in Italy. Its strategic location on top of a plateau made it an ideal defensive outpost, and over the centuries, it flourished as a bustling medieval town. However, the town's isolation also became its downfall. Erosion of the surrounding cliffs gradually isolated Civita Di Bagnoregio from the rest of the world, leading to a decline in its population. Today, only 10 residents call this historic town home, adding to its mystique and allure. 10 people total! Some might even call it a ghost town!
