Once sought after by pirates for its safe harbors, the Los Cabos region of the Southern Baja Peninsula is now home to bustling towns of San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Each offers travelers an exciting, fun-filled destination. Cabo San Lucas, with a population of 25,000, is the faster-growing of the two. In the past few years, swanky new hotels and sleek condos have been added to round out this vacation destination. Superb sportfishing put Cabo San Lucas on the map, but non-fishermen will enjoy the thriving beach community as well. Snorkeling gear, boats, waverunners, kayaks, paddleboats and windsurf boards are all available for the active vacationer.
Like the other ships in the PONANT EXPLORERS series, Le Bellot has been designed to provide absolute comfort for its passengers, even at the heart of the world's most remote and isolated regions. Racy lines, state-of-the-art equipment, a refined design, a softly muted and at the same time convivial ambiance together with a deliberately restricted number of cabins all contribute to the modernity of Le Bellot, a unique ship in the world of cruising.

Mar 17, 2028 - Guerrero Negro
Guerrero Negro, located halfway down Mexico's Baja Peninsula, is visited for mainly one reason—it's near Parque Natural de la Ballena Gris (Gray Whale National Park). January-March, gray whales breed and give birth to their calves near the shores of Laguna Ojo de Liebre (also known as Scammon's Lagoon). Take binoculars if you go there and pay the small fee for one of the boat tours—it's worth it to get out closer to the whales.
Another destination in the area is San Ignacio (a small oasis town 90 mi/145 km to the southeast) and the nearby San Ignacio Lagoon, home of the "friendly whales." For whatever reason, many of the whales there seem better disposed toward humans, and some will even swim close enough to be petted.
Santa Rosalia, 43 mi/70 km farther east, is a tiny town that features a prefabricated church designed by Alexandre Eiffel of Eiffel Tower fame. Between this town and Guerrero Negro, be sure to visit the cave paintings of Sierra de San Francisco, produced by the nomadic Cochimi before the arrival of the Spanish.
Puerto San Carlos on Magdalena Bay (farther south on the peninsula) is another great spot for whale-watching. Local tours are available. There are also cave paintings nearby, accessible only on horseback.

Mar 19, 2028 - Bahia Magdalena
The great Bahía Magdalena is the gate entrance to the Pacific. It is a unique place and, as a natural reserve of gray whales that arrive to its waters to fulfill their biological cycle during the months of January to March, a great location for whale watching. The islands of Magdalena and Margarita contribute with the counter coastline that protects it from the strong waves which characterize the Pacific Ocean. The elongated form and low altitude of the islands, shaped almost totally by white sand dunes, permits visitors to simultaneously enjoy the inside and outside ocean view from some of its points. A very beautiful coastline offers plenty of beaches, inlets, marshes and mangrove swamps that are the sanctuary of resident and migratory sea birds and its waters are rich in species for commercial and sports fishing.

The National Marine Park runs parallel to the Eastern Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. Surrounded by unspoiled deserts and immaculate mountain ranges, the National Marine Park cradles one of only 3 living coral reefs in North America. During the first decade since it opened, the area has seen over 400% increase in total biomass due to the healthy condition of the reefs. On water, visitors come to Cabo Pulmo to whale watch, surf, snorkel and dive with the diverse marine life that live there. On land, visitors can mountain bike, hike mountains, or just enjoy the tranquility of Old Mexico.
