Empowering Balinese Women: A Journey of Culture, Resilience and Connection - Day Trip

Half-day Positive Impact Travel Experience

Beyond Bali's celebrated beaches and emerald rice terraces lies an opportunity to experience the island through the lives of the women who help preserve its traditions while shaping its future. In the peaceful village of Payangan, this meaningful encounter introduces travelers to the inspiring work of Ibu Sari, whose Women's Centre has become a place of hope, learning and empowerment for vulnerable Balinese women.

Women play an essential role in Balinese society, balancing family responsibilities, community obligations and centuries-old cultural traditions. Yet for many, particularly those who have experienced divorce, social stigma and economic hardship can create significant barriers. Inspired by her own journey through divorce and a 16-year separation from her daughter, Ibu Sari established the center after recognizing that many women shared similar experiences. Drawing on her background as a teacher, she created a safe and supportive environment where women could rebuild their confidence, develop practical skills and create new opportunities for themselves and their families.

Your visit begins with the opportunity to meet Ibu Sari and hear her remarkable story, offering valuable insight into the realities of life for many Balinese women and the resilience that continues to define them. You'll then take part in two hands-on workshops of your choice, each led by the talented women of the center.

Learn to blend fragrant local herbs and spices into your own herbal tea to enjoy at home, or discover the intricate art of traditional batik making. Create a delicate Canang Sari offering while learning about its deep spiritual significance in daily Balinese life, or join a sewing workshop where skilled artisans guide you in crafting your own handmade keepsake. Those seeking relaxation can participate in a yoga and meditation session, while food lovers can uncover the secrets of authentic Balinese cuisine by preparing two traditional dishes under the guidance of local cooks.

Depending on your chosen activities, you'll enjoy a delicious Balinese lunch lovingly prepared by the women of the center, or savor the dishes you've created during the cooking class.

More than a cultural experience, this visit offers an authentic connection with the local community. Every workshop directly supports the center’s education and livelihood programs, ensuring your visit contributes to sustainable opportunities for Balinese women while providing a deeper understanding of the people and traditions that make Bali so unique.
