Apr 17, 2028 - Nijmegen

Nijmegen, a municipality and city near the German border, has a long recorded history, and boasts on being the oldest city in the Netherlands. It is most famous for the International Four Days Marches. The annual event takes place on the third Tuesday in July and is comprised of a four day walk, along with a flag parade and memorial service. Nijmegen's diversity is most evident in its people. The list of famous people hailing from Nijmegen is quite varying, from Saint Petrus Canisius to rock musician Eddie Van Halen.

Apr 18, 2028 - Maastricht

Maastricht is the oldest city in the Netherlands, peacefully perching on the banks of the Maas River. It is also one of the sunnier spots, located at Holland's southernmost point, squeezed in between the Belgium and German borders. Ancient fortifications provide pleasant walking routes and some of these can be explored on the city's western outskirts. The Bonnefantenmuseum traces the city's historical roots, and makes for a good introduction to one's visit. Another must-see is the Basilica of Saint Servatius. It is a medieval cruciform basilica with a significant collection of religious artefacts as well as the burial place of Holland's first bishop. In the old centre of Maastricht is a selection of shops and department stores. Here one can also savour the fine food that Maastricht has developed a reputation for. A selection of wines from nearby vineyards can be savoured with the cuisine that has been influenced by the distinctive tastes of its neighbours. Maastricht is located 133 miles (215km) from Amsterdam.

Apr 19, 2028 - Namur

Namur, the capital of Wallonia, is 40 mi/64 km southwest of Brussels. It straddles the Meuse and Sambre Rivers at the gateway to the Ardennes. An impressive citadel with 27 towers looms over the town from a cliff-top site. The citadel has a weapons museum, underground chambers and a scenic (and strategic) view of the surrounding countryside.

The town also has a nice cathedral (St. Alban's), a casino and a number of small museums, including the interesting Museum of Decorative Arts housed in the historic Hotel de Groesbeeck de Croix.

Apr 20, 2028 - Liege

Set in the eastern section of Wallonia, Liege, located 61 mi/98 km east of Brussels, is an industrial town. That said, the city still has enough of interest to merit a two-night visit.

Among its attractions are the market square (with its 17th-century Perron Fountain), the Palace of the Prince-Bishops (beautiful courtyards and columns), Curtius Museum (exhibits from the Gallo-Roman, Renaissance, baroque and Frankish periods, including a display of glassware, masterpieces of Mosan art and lovely Merovingian jewelry) and the Museum of Walloon Life (arts and crafts tell the history of the city from the 16th to the 20th century).

Liege is known for its gunsmiths and crystal, as well as for being the birthplace of Georges Simenon (creator of the Inspector Maigret novels). If you climb up the 373 steps to the citadel on Bueren Hill, you'll be rewarded with a panoramic view of the city. Try to plan your visit so it includes a Sunday, when there's a market on the left bank of the Meuse River.

Other excursions can be made to Huy, which has pewter factories and shops filled with their products, the 15th-century Li Bassinia fountain and the ruins of the Abbey of Neufmoustier; Spa, which is famous (not surprisingly) for its spas—it was the birthplace of the modern spa; and Tongeren, Belgium's oldest town and site of the country's largest antiques market.

Apr 21, 2028 - Antwerp

Antwerp is famous for its art treasures, diamond industry, and culture, relaxation and entertainment. Shop at Grote Markt, at the heart of which stands Brabo Fountain. Antwerp’s main attractions include stunning City Hall, one of the most important buildings of the Northern Renaissance; Our Lady’s Cathedral, one of the finest gothic churches in Belgium; and the daintily restored 16th-century guildhouses. Visit Diamond Land or Provincial Diamond Museum. Other sights include The Steen - a waterfront gatehouse of a medieval fortress built on site of a 9th-century fortification from which the town spread that now houses the National Maritime Museum; Mayer van den Berg Art Museum; Royal Art Gallery - which has 2,500 paintings spanning five centuries; and Plantin-Moretus Museum - a 16th-century patrician mansion that was a famous printing house of the Plantin and Moretus families.

Apr 22, 2028 - Brussels

Brussels's Upper and a Lower Town conjure up images of important buildings and long avenues and small, dark streets. Lower Town, the old Flemish quarter, contains the city's most famous sites, including its greatest landmark, Grand Place, and the Manneken Pis. It's also the location of around ten churches relatively close to each other; most of them from the Flemish Renaissance and Baroque periods. In Upper Town, you'll find King's palace, royal squares and various palaces from the eighteenth-century neo-classical Austrian period. The built-up business and residential areas are scrupulously broken up by frequent patches of green parks, which help account for the city's sedate, unfrenzied atmosphere. Around the city center are congregated many small, carefully laid-out parks that provide settings for statues and national monuments.

Apr 24, 2028 - Ghent

It is no coincidence Ghent was given several names: historic heart of Flanders, a city of all times, one of the most beautiful historic cities in Europe. The city combines an impressive past with a vivid present. The historic heart of the city offers many places of interest. From St Michael's bridge there is a wonderful view of the skyline of Ghent with the three impressive towers of St Nicholas' Church, the Belfry with its bell tower, and St. Bavo's cathedral. Traces of the Middle Ages are well-preserved in Ghent. The old port with its guild halls on Graslei and Korenlei is merely one example of the beautiful views this town has to offer. Not far from Graslei arises the Castle of the Counts, once the medieval fortress of the Count of Flanders. Ghent also has several museums, abbeys, beguinages, dozens of churches and historical buildings. Everyone can find something here to suit his taste. Ghent offers shops, restaurants and an exciting nightlife. Discover Ghent by boat, carriage, bicycle or on foot.

Middelburg is the capital of Zeeland and an important market and commercial centre. It is one of the oldest towns in the Netherlands with many associations with the Counts of Holland. At the centre of Middelburg is the 12th century abbey complex, with three churches, two museums, a herb garden and office space for the regional government. Above the Gispport, the entrance to the complex, is a statue of Willem II. The Lange Jan, or octagonal tower, is topped with the imperial crown of Willem II, whose marble tomb is in the church below. The stadhuis was built in the 15th century but required rebuilding after bombing in the Second World War when many buildings were destroyed. On the exterior are 25 statues of counts and countesses of Zeeland.

Apr 27, 2028 - Kinderdijk

Apr 28, 2028 - Haarlem

Situated 15 mi/25 km west of Amsterdam, Haarlem has beautiful medieval houses, a 13th-century city hall, tulips and the Teylers Museum. If that's not enough, continue with the Frans Hals Museum.

Once a decade, Haarlem hosts Floriade, a massive horticultural exhibition with plants from all over the world.

Just west of Haarlem is Zandvoort. Because it is so easily reached by train, Zandvoort is Amsterdam's most popular beach resort. Also famous for its motor-racing circuit, Zandvoort hosts the Dutch Grand Prix.
