Destination Highlight

Wonderful Copenhagen is a city of bridge-spanned canals, copper-roofed buildings and manicured parks. This famous Baltic seaport is one of Europe’s loveliest capitals and the seat of the oldest monarchy in the world. Copenhagen is a focus for commerce, culture, industry and cosmopolitan atmosphere. The locale of Hans Christian Andersen’s enchanting tale of The Little Mermaid, Copenhagen is known as Denmark’s fairy-tale city. Its impressive theaters, museums and churches are of interest to many visitors; the best-loved attractions include the world-famous Tivoli Gardens, the Langelinie Harbor with its Little Mermaid statue and the busy shopping promenade known as Strøget.

About the Ship
MS Roald Amundsen is as pioneering as the man it is named after, Roald Amundsen - the legendary Norwegian explorer. One of two fully hybrid ships in our fleet, explore the wonders of the world onboard one of the most environmentally friendly cruise ships in the world.
The stunning scenery is reflected in a rich and comfortable interior design. Scandinavian materials from nature, such as granite, oak, birch and wool are used to create relaxed and stylish cabins and public areas. All cabins are outside cabins, of which 50% have private balconies, and aft suites feature private outdoor hot tubs with spectacular views. One of the most eye-catching exterior design features is the two-level indoor/outdoor Observation Deck. It is an ideal place to scan the scenery and watch for wildlife with your binoculars.

Sep 19, 2027 - Nuuk

Nuuk was founded by the unfailingly optimistic Hans Egede - the Danish missionary with soul-conversions on his mind - who promptly named the settlement Good Hope. Today Nuuk is small by modern standards, with a total population of only 14,000. Despite a wealth of land and a paucity of people, Nuuk has insisted on housing the population in immense apartment blocks with imaginative names like Blok P - a kind of Gulag on ice - and the urban sprawl is now spreading out along the road to the airport. Kolonihavnen is a pleasant exception to the rest of Nuuk's Lego-city look: it's a picturesque 18th-century fishing village in the heart of Nuuk and gives some idea of what the town looked like before the industrial harbour was built. Nuuk's real attraction lies in its proximity to any number of excellent day hikes into the hinterland and the fabulous views from the tops of the nearby mountains. Organised tours, boat trips and the rental of equipment is easier from the capital.

Sep 21, 2027 - Brattahlid

Greenland, the planet’s biggest island, offers one of the world’s most tranquil and beautiful landscapes one can imagine. South Greenland is famous for its verdant hills contrasted by icebergs, friendly locals and fascinating Viking ruins. In Brattahlid visitors can visit the reconstructed home of the first viking to settle in Greenland, Erik the Red.

Sep 22, 2027 - Qaqortoq

Qaqortoq means "The White Place", and the town is the educational and cultural center of Southern Greenland. The sheep farms give this part of Greenland special character. Qaqortoq has a sculpture park "Stone and Man" made by 18 Nordic sculptors. The result is 24 sculptures and reliefs spread all over town. Greenland's only public fountain is in the town square. The square is the historical part of town, with many buildings from colonial times and a museum concentrating on Greenlandic culture, the Norse period and the history of Qaqortoq. Close to the square is "Brædtet" market where local fishermen and hunters sell the days catch. There are 2 churches in town; "Frelserens" from 1832 and "Gertrud Raschs" from 1973. "Frelserens" hans the lifebuoy and memorial tablet with the names of those missing from M/S Hans Hedtoft, which went down in January 1959. "Gertrud Raschs" has one of Greenlands most beautiful altar pieces made by artist Maria Haagen-Müller.

Sep 30, 2027 - At Sea
Oct 01, 2027 - Battle Harbour

Battle Harbour is a 19th century summer fishing station, formerly a permanent settlement, located in the province of Newfoundland in Canada. Battle Harbour has been restored to its former glory and is a living commemoration to the life and society created there by Newfoundlanders and Labradorians during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Additionally, this area is rich with natural beauty and offers travellers stunning views of icebergs, whales, and vivid sunsets.

Oct 02, 2027 - Red Bay
Oct 03, 2027 - St. Anthony

St. Anthony is one of Canada's easternmost points and packs in a milennium of Newfoundland history. Nearby are Gros Morne National Park and L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Park, as well as an old Basque whaling site and a museum that celebrates the life of Wilfred Grenfell—"the doctor who went out into the cold." A recreated Viking settlement features longboats and sod huts, authentically replicating an ancient town built by hardy Norsemen.

Oct 04, 2027 - Bonavista

Cape Bonavista, 80 mi/130 km north of St. John's, is reputed to be where, in 1497, John Cabot's ship made landfall in what became known as Newfoundland and Labrador (although no one knows the exact spot for sure). You can see a replica of the ship, the Matthew, in the town's harbor.

The lighthouse on Cape Bonavista, first used in 1843, is now a provincial historic site. Costumed staff play the roles of the lighthouse attendants who kept the flame in the tower burning for decades. Across from the lighthouse is a large outcropping where thousands of Atlantic puffins, the provincial bird, congregate in summer. Don't miss the interpretation center on-site.

Oct 05, 2027 - St. John's, Newfoundland

St. John's, a classic harbor city, is capital of Newfoundland. Old accents and customs are common, yet Saint John is still modern. The city recently celebrated its 500th anniversary as a modern city with preserved heritage and culture. It offers old world charm, unique architectural and historic landmarks, fine cuisine and many other attractions. Historic downtown features unique sites, such as Cabot Tower on Signal Hill overlooking the harbor and the city. The famous friendliness, hospitality and charm of the people of Saint John, plus the Newfoundland folk music found in many of the lively waterfront bars, ensure a perfect visit. A 3 mile Rennies River Trail cuts through the city along a wooded stream and ends at the only public fluvarium in North America, where in late October/early November one can observe spawning brown and brook trout in their natural habitat through underwater windows. The Bowring Victorian park was donated by the wealthy Bowring family in 1911, and resembles the parks of London after which is was modeled.
