A World Apart in Chilean Patagonia

The Quintessential Basecamp for Patagonian Wilderness

Anchored right in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park—a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve—Explora Torres del Paine (Hotel Salto Chico) commands one of the most breathtaking settings in global luxury hospitality. Perched on the southern edge of turquoise Lake Pehoe beside the rushing cascade of the Salto Chico waterfall, the lodge looks directly across the waters toward the towering granite spires of the Paine Massif and the iconic Cuernos del Paine, providing an unmatched front-row seat to Patagonia’s dramatic play of light and weather.

Designed by visionary Chilean architect Germán del Sol, the lodge’s minimalist structure was conceived as a restful sanctuary after rugged exploration. Warm interiors are crafted from native Patagonian lenga wood and slate stone, with floor-to-ceiling windows that capture sweeping mountain vistas from every vantage point. The 50 luxury rooms and suites are intentionally unplugged—free of televisions and Wi-Fi—encouraging complete immersion in the untamed wilderness while providing sumptuous bedding, hydromassage bathtubs, and deep, restorative comfort.

Explora’s all-inclusive expedition program is unrivaled in southern Patagonia. Guests choose from over 45 distinct half-day and full-day explorations led by bilingual expert guides in small groups of no more than eight travelers. Adventures include trekking to the base of the granite Towers, hiking the French Valley, exploring the colossal Grey Glacier, navigating Lake Pehoe aboard Explora’s private catamaran, and horseback riding through remote estancias on Explora’s own specially trained horses from private stables.

After exhilarating expeditions, guests unwind at the Casa de Baños spa pavilion, featuring an indoor heated lap pool, four open-air hydromassage hot tubs perched above Lake Pehoe, a traditional sauna, and therapeutic massage treatments. Evenings are celebrated in the scenic dining room over sophisticated Patagonian cuisine highlighting local Magellanic lamb, King crab, and fresh Patagonian fish paired with prestigious Chilean wines, followed by craft cocktails and camaraderie at the Explorer’s Bar.
