Exploring on my own has taken me from wandering the streets of San Diego to spending two weeks discovering Toronto, Montréal, Ottawa, and Hamilton by train. I've stayed everywhere from a historic jail hostel to a luxury landmark hotel, and I've planned every detail myself—from finding unique restaurants and local coffee shops to tracking down filming locations and one-of-a-kind experiences. Those trips reminded me that some of the best adventures happen when you step a little beyond the typical tourist itinerary.
